ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
England's overall average performance continued in their penalty shootout win over Switzerland in the quarter-final of Euro 2024. However, the one player that has received the highest amount of flack has been the Manchester City star – who failed to score a goal, register an assist, have a shot on target, create more than a single chance and lost the ball 19 times during his 115 minutes on the field.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The selections from Gareth Southgate and the formations used by the 53-year-old throughout the tournament have been heavily criticized by fans and pundits alike for not utilizing the skill sets of the stars lined in the team. He shifted to a three-man defence against Switzerland, and while the team did play better than their previous showings, the tournament is yet to see their best possible version.

WHAT NEXT FOR FODEN?
It is likely that Southgate may not want to tinker too much with his side heading into the clash against the Netherlands on July 10, and Premier League Player of the Year Foden will likely have another chance to impress in the crucial contest.
